Chemical Peels

A ‘Chemical Peel’ is a cosmetic technique used to resurface, and improve the appearance of the skin using a special, chemical solution. Although most often used to treat the face, Chemical Peels may also be used to treat skin on the arms, legs, hands, neck, back and buttocks.

Next to muscle-relaxing injections, Chemical Peels are perhaps the most common non-invasive procedure available, offering patients an incredible complexion boost by stripping away the skin’s damaged, superficial layer and revealing a newer, fresher layer of skin beneath.

LIGHTENING DEPIGMENTATION PEEL (WHITENING PEELING)

Based on glycolic, mandelic and kojic acids, this whitening gel exfoliates the skin and stimulates its renewal.

Adapted to all skin types, it prevents the synthesis of melanin to offer a brightening effect. It is indicated in the treatment of melasmas, pigmented spots and hyperpigmentation

ANTI-ACNE PEELING

This peeling reduces acne, scars, blackheads and comedones thanks to the purifying effect of salicylic acid (20%) that frees the pores of dead cells and impurities.

Lactic and glycolic acids allow the active substance to enter more easily into the epidermis without any irritation.

ANTI-AGING PEELING

As it penetrates deeply into the skin, this peel formulated with 15% TCA significantly reduces lines and wrinkles, but also acne scars.

It stimulates the natural production of collagen and thus restores the elasticity of the epidermis, as it erases, in particular, the noxious effects of sun exposure.

WHAT IS THE BEST CHEMICAL FACE PEEL FOR ME?

This depends on your skin type and concerns. During your free consultation, Dr Shah will analyse the skin and advise on the best peel for your skin.

HOW MANY CHEMICAL PEELS WILL I NEED?

The number of chemical skin peel treatments needed varies depending on the type of peel and the skin concern(s) being treated. Some clients have a peel as a one-off to freshen the skin and prevent breakouts. However, to treat skin conditions such a pigmentation or acne a course of treatments will be required (3-6 usually).

WHAT ARE THE SKIN PEEL SIDE EFFECTS?

Chemical skin peels may cause increased sensitivity depending on your skin type and home care regimen. Side effects may include (but aren’t limited to): stinging, itching, irritation, redness, swelling, tightness, peeling and scabbing of the skin, scarring, post inflammatory hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO BEFORE OR AFTER MY PEEL TO ENSURE I GET THE BEST RESULTS?

  • You will usually stop using any active skincare products (e.g. containing retinol, glycolic, other AHA’s or bleaching products) for 3 days prior to your peel
  • It is recommended that you have not had sunbed use or sunburn or any other form of burn to the face in the 2 weeks prior to your peel
  • After the peel you should use the recommended home care products (including SPF50 Daily. This will ensure that your skin heals quickly and is kept hydrated post-treatment.
  • Avoid sweating, exercising, hot baths or shower for 72 hours after your peel and avoid scrubbing, picking or rubbing the skin for 5 days post treatment.
  • Avoid intense sun exposure (e.g sunbathing with face in sun) or tanning beds for at least 14 days after any peel.

I found Dr Shah a few months ago and I am so happy with the results from my treatments. I do not feel nervous at all and the results are always amazing, very natural and never overdone.

Dr Shah is one of the best aestheticians I have been too and I will not be going anywhere else for the foreseeable!

I have been to Dr Shah for the last 6 years and didn’t have chance to write a review and yesterday I went to see him again. He is always very welcoming and asks what I am concerned about. I highly recommend him.

I have had a lot of treatments from him and he makes me look younger than my age . Will be back again for another treatment. My next one is PRP. Looking forward to it.

I can highly recommend the services of Face&Skin. I’ve used them twice now, once for IPL treatment on my cheeks to lessen redness from Rosacea (very successful), and more recently ongoing treatments to deal with melasma/hyperpigmentation (which are amazing).

Dr Shah is one of my GP’s so I was reassured from the start that all treatments were done by fully qualified professionals. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Face&Skin for all your aesthetic treatments, always a great service and good professional advice. My skin has never looked so good!

Sarah Hennessy
