Sculptra
Sculptra is an injectable treatment which stimulates collagen production, leading to dramatic rejuvenation results in patients.
Collagen is one of the most abundant proteins in the body. It makes up around 75 percent of our skin. There are several types of collagen and out of these types, type 1 and type 3 are most prevalent in the health and resilience of the skin. Type 1 is the main structural component of the skin, where type 3 plays an important role in healing and repair.
Therefore, it’s no wonder that as the ageing process takes its toll and collagen depletes, that we can start to see the effects of this, in our complexion. What is Sculptra?
Sculptra is a substance which is made from poly-lactic acid (PLLA), a fully absorbed polymer, which works deeply within the skin tissues to improve its inner structure, over a series of treatments.
What happens during a Sculptra treatment?
Your skin is cleansed and sterilised and your practitioner will mark out where the injection points will be, after an initial examination. When Sculptra is injected in to the skin, the PLLA microparticles stimulate the replacement of lost collagen. Over time, collagen production is increased and your skin looks healthier, feels firmer and appears lifted.
How many Sculptra treatment sessions will I need?
In general, most patients will require around 3 treatment sessions to achieve optimum results. These treatments are typically spaced 2 to 4 weeks apart. This means that the total time to complete the entire treatment course is around 6 to 12 weeks. However, these are general guidelines and your individual treatment plan will be discussed in your no obligation consultation.
What happens during a treatment with Sculptra?
As with any injectable cosmetic procedure, a small amount of numbing cream will be applied to the treatment area. Once the numbing cream has taken effect, Dr Shah will inject Sculptra in to your skin tissues.
The most common side-effects after an initial Sculptra treatment include swelling at the injection site, tenderness, redness, pain, bruising, bleeding, itching and lumps. These are all very normal and will subside in a day or so.
Your practitioner will advise on suitable preventative measures to take before your treatment, as well as aftercare, to minimise potential side-effects.

These results can include a long lasting improvement in the appearance of wrinkles, an increase in elasticity and improved overall skin quality and radiance, 12 months after treatment and a more youthful glow to the skin with a lifting effect of skin sagging and laxity.
